First Haircut

We are back from Timmy's birthday and Christmas in NJ and readjusting to normal life here. The 1 year post will be up soon, but I had to write about Timmy's first haircut today.

Timmy's ONEderful Birthday Party

Saturday was a day full of celebration, attention and presents for our little Christmas baby. First was Christmas with Grandma, Grandpa, Uncle Kevin and Uncle Steven. Timmy was spoiled, as were Pete and I. Our entire living area was overrun with presents, and we now need to move to a bigger house or rent a warehouse to store all of our presents.

In the afternoon it was Timmy's first birthday party. Despite skipping naps and being completely overwhelmed, Timmy happily entertained lots of guests.

We played pin the star on the Christmas tree:

Timmy cried when he saw Santa (Kevin) again:

And he rocked his birthday suit, of course!

Too bad for him that was after his very first taste of chocolate. Timmy was a big fan of cupcakes, and it showed in his belly!

Our sweet little birthday boy had a good day and he still has 5 days to go until his actual birthday!

Fresh and Clean

We don't get much rain here in southern California. Last week was only the 2nd time it has rained since ... I don't know... April? A long time. It always throws everyone into a panic...no one knows how to drive in rain, every outdoor event is canceled and people get grumpy. I hate rain just as much as the next Angelino, but there is one thing that no one can argue with: a rain storm produces the best, most beautiful Los Angeles when it passes. Especially in the winter, you can see for miles and miles to the snow-capped mountains.

Our view from our balcony:

And from just up the hill where we live, looking out over the whole city to the Hollywood sign:

Happily, our sunny and mid-70 degree weather is returning so we can play outside and squeeze in some sunshine before our trip the east coast.

He is going to LOVE opening presents

With his birthday and Christmas sneaking up on us, Timmy is going to be ripping open some wrapping paper soon. I know some kids freak out with all the attention on them, and some kids don't get all of the hoopla, but I have a feeling Timmy will be going to town when it's his turn to open gifts.

Last week I brought up the big box of Christmas decorations. Timmy helped me pull everything out and then ripped ALL of the tissue paper that had been carefully wrapped around the fragile stuff to shreds. He had the best time.

Traumatizing

Don't expect Timmy to like Santa just because he's a Christmas baby.

Swearing in Ceremony #1

Friday we went up to Pepperdine for the swearing in ceremony to the state Bar of California at the law school. I was lucky enough to have my whole family there and some of my best friends. Timmy was even a dream despite it being way past his bedtime!

Thanksgiving Recap

A little late, but here are some pictures from Thanksgiving. We hosted our 4th Thanksgiving dinner, but this was our first with Timmy and that made it even more fun.

Timmy had fun playing with Uncle Kevin and Steven and Grandma and Grandpa. Pete and I had fun cooking until our oven broke. (Luckily we had our bbq for heating up leftovers). Timmy ate pumpkin pie and mashed potatoes for the first time.

We used our wedding china and crystal for the first time and experimented with a couple of new recipes. All in all, another great year!

What a difference from last year!

People, I have an 11 month old!

Timmy,
Today marks 11 months that you've been in this world. Not to sound like a broken record, but every day you become more Timmy-like and less baby-like. I love learning your personality and temperament. Not to discount how amazing these 11 months have been, but I really think the next month is going to be the best yet. Tomorrow is your first ever Thanksgiving so you will have a fun day eating and celebrating with the whole Wood family. Then we are all going to enjoy the Christmas season, which I would argue will be your first (you got kind of short-changed last year).

Speaking of Christmas, I think you got one of your presents early. There's a famous song "All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth." Both of your front top teeth poked through, just in time to eat lots of good food this holiday season.

Once you started crawling, our apartment become your own personal obstacle course. Your favorite things to do are pull on the computer cables, eat cat food, play with the cat toys and pull books/dvds off the shelf.

You love driving cars and trains around on the floor. Recently you discovered that you could roll your stroller around too. It's pretty funny to watch a little tiny baby moving such a big stroller around.

You love standing up now. There is a white noise machine with a night light on the side of your crib and you always get up to press the light on. Every time we come to get you after a nap or in the morning, you clap with delight as we walk toward you.

This week you started cruising along the furniture. It kind of amazes me that just over a month ago, you were immobile. Now you crawl, pull yourself to standing and walk while holding onto something. You're not yet able to stand up on your own, but it seems like you will walk long before I originally thought.

I've found that one of the best ways to get you to do something is to offer a book as a reward. You've always liked being read to, but your new thing is to take the book in both of your hands from me, look at it really close up, squeal and laugh, then turn the page and hand it back to me. Sometimes you do this at every other page. If we're in the car or out running errands, I'll start saying the words of a story you know and you'll laugh and laugh and laugh. I may have to invest in some new books soon though, because if I read Hippos go Berserk one more time I'm going to need therapy.

Other things you like doing now: splashing in the bathtub/pool, swinging at the playground, playing with other babies at playgroup, looking at doggies, eating cheerios, chasing cats, playing peek-a-boo, eating paper/things on the floor that I didn't know were there, making mommy and daddy laugh, roaring and singing, cuddling and scratching your belly.

I love almost everything you do these days. The things that are frustrating tend to be manifestations of your stubbornness, in which case I just have to laugh because you probably inherited that from me. Happy 11 months!

Love,
Mommy & Daddy

I Passed the Bar Exam!

I'll be sworn in to the state and federal courts in 3 ceremonies (one at school, two with work).

Couldn't have done it without the support of friends and family, especially Pete and my Mom. Oh and Timmy. Actually, I'm pretty sure Timmy only made it more difficult, but maybe he was just the distraction I needed!

What kind of animal is your child?

Timmy is definitely a dinosaur or something equally scary and foreboding.

Although if it's true that you are what you eat, he would be a cat.

Better late than never, here are a few pictures of our little monkey Timmy on his first Halloween:
