Eighteen Months

Timmy,
You are one and a half today and a completely delightful, funny and sweet little boy (most of the time). With every passing day you start looking more like a toddler (and your dad) and less like a baby.

18 month stats:
Height: 33.5 inches (75th percentile)
Weight: 30 lbs, 7 oz (93rd percentile)
Head Circumference: 20 inches (>95th percentile)

You're a big, bulky guy and everyone comments that you are going to be a football player (we'll see about that when you're older...). I bought you new shoes yesterday and just about fainted when the lady brought out size 7 wide shoes. You're like a German Shepherd puppy; you still need to grow into your feet (and your head).

A bunch of new teeth are invading your mouth. You have 7 in front and 4 molars. Your hair is getting lighter, thick and wavy, needing frequent haircuts, which I still do at home. Your eyes are a bluish/greenish/gray color, depending on the light and what you're wearing, though I have a feeling they may still change.

You are almost as stubborn as your mama, and want to do everything by yourself. I don't even bother trying to feed you anymore. And you do just fine anyway, using forks and spoons really well.

You're turning into a very active boy, running, climbing, bouncing and dancing. There is probably nothing that gets you more excited than the sight of trucks or cranes or anything remotely related to construction work. Every time you see an airplane or the moon in the sky, you point up, shriek with excitement and tell me what you see. Now you like boats and trains too. That's not to say you only like "boy" toys. At the park, you jump on the chance to push around a little stroller with a baby doll in it.

Without a doubt, your favorite activity is reading books. There are easily 100 books in your collection and I honestly can't say which is your favorite; we read them all, and some we read multiple times a day. Sometimes you'll sit in front of the bookshelves, pulling them off one at a time, flipping through the pages, pointing to things we talk about and babbling something incomprehensible. The end result is a pile that completely buries you. Other times, you'll bring them one at a time to me, shouting "Book! Book!" and plop in my lap.

A few times a week, I let you watch a TV show while I cook dinner. As soon as the word "Backyardigans" comes out of my mouth, you smile and sprint to your little chair, get comfortable and wait for your little singing and dancing friends to appear on the screen. Then you'll watch, completely entranced, for the entire 30 minutes, laughing at all the right times. It's adorable.

You love animals, especially dogs, but recently you've rediscovered our cats and find the things they do hilarious. George crawls into a bag...hilarious! Sweet Pea runs away from you...hilarious! You also love flirting with the ladies, and when you really want to impress them, you flash your belly button and grin.

There is so much more I could say about you at this age, but I'm not sure it's possible to put it all into words. Just know that your parents (and grandparents/aunts/uncles/friends) love spending time with you and watching you become your own little self.

Love,
Mama

Timmy on the loose

Timmy decided he was ready to walk last week after a long period of timidly taking steps then dropping to his knees or walking holding on to our finger. It's so fun for all of us...here he is at the park today:

Taco Tuesday

I think everyone who actually reads this blog (if anyone does anymore) already knows, but Pete has taken a new job and will start April 12th. That means he is winding up his current job and he is taking advantage of having a little bit less pressure on him while he can. He got home early last night at 6, in time to have dinner with Timmy and give him a bath. We all enjoyed some fish tacos and it was SO NICE to have a little family dinner (that never happens during the week).

Pete snapped a few photos of Timmy, and I noticed that this week he has really started posing for pictures. He smiles so much his eyes squint and his teeth poke through. I love it. It will be a great time in our lives when we are able to enjoy family dinners regularly, but until then, I am soaking up every wonderful minute of it!

Silly Tired

At night just before Timmy's bed time, he gets super super silly. Sometimes Daddy is lucky enough to make it home from work to enjoy

Sunday Brunch

Sorry for the long absence ... Here is a little of what we've been up to...

Brunch on the weekends is one of our favorite traditions. Last Sunday, we met up with Grandma, Uncle Steven and Uncle Kevin in Long Beach and enjoyed some delicious crepes and omelettes.

The Zoo

Last weekend we took our first trip to San Diego as a family. My best friend from Law School, Lexie, moved down there in August and this was my first time visiting her! I know...bad friend. We went to a delicious Tapas place for dinner and had a gorgeous ocean view in La Jolla for champagne brunch on Sunday, but the best part was the Zoo! We walked there from Bryce's place and spent a sunny afternoon walking all around. There were tons of monkeys and animals I can't remember the names of, but we particularly liked the Hippos, Elephants, Koalas (it was Koalapalooza), and the Lion.

I think we will be heading back soon, we all had fun!

First Year in Review

Timmy,
This post is a little late because now I am trying to keep up with a ONE YEAR OLD! You celebrated your first birthday and technically your second Christmas in New Jersey this year. It's amazing that even though you are just 1, this is the third calendar year in which you have been alive. Next year, your life will span two decades. Crazy.

You are a sweet, fun and honestly good little boy and we really loved every minute of your first year. I think this year will be even better. With every day that passes, you become more interactive and we get to see more and more of your personality. You are a huge flirt, especially with young, pretty girls. Lately you have been a big Mama's boy. Most kids your own age don't interest you, but you could watch the big kids play for hours.

You're pretty good at crawling now. You pull yourself up on everything and have been cruising along furniture and walls for a while too. You learned how to climb stairs and climb into your special chair (we're still working on teaching you how to get out of it!). You aren't walking yet unless you are pushing your wagon or a chair. You dance on command now which is pretty amazing. I'll post a video of that soon.

Recently you started feeding yourself with a spoon, which is a big accomplishment for you because it's hard to resist biting the handle to soothe your gums (you have 5 teeth now but we think more are on the way soon). Pretty much any food we eat will end up on your plate. As long as you can feed it to yourself, you'll probably try it. You still love cheerios more than anything, but chicken, bananas, tomatoes, cheese, fish and berries are also yummy. You've been drinking whole milk since you were 11 months old, but now you drink that twice a day every day.

You talk (and sing) all the time, but we don't understand all of it. You say Mama and Dada really well to the right person now and we love it. You can also say a few other things, but you would need me or Daddy to interpret for you out in public: Dog, cereal, all done, ya, no. The other day we thought you said "Elmo" but Grandma threatened to withhold all toys if you said that before you say "Grandma."

Your book collection has basically tripled over the past year. You have a few favorites: "Moo, Baa, La La La," "Barnyard Dance," "Hand Hand Finger Thumb," "Bebe Feliz," "Firetrucks," and "Eight Silly Monkeys." Every once in a while, we let you watch a Baby Einstein video (Neighborhood Animals) and it completely captivates you for 30 minutes.

Every day I count my blessings that I have such an easy going, sweet and charming baby boy. I take you everywhere with me and feel so lucky that I get to spend the first 22 months of your life with you 24/7. It seriously boggles my mind that 1 year has already passed but I have no time to feel sad or miss your baby days because I'm having too much fun watching you turn into a little boy. You have made our life feel so much more complete and rewarding.

Happy Birthday little man!

Love,
Mommy and Daddy
